Re: word 'killifish'
Killifish is derived from the Dutch words meaning "fish of the creek." This common name was given to the family by early Dutch collectors, the first to explore Africa and bring back killies from that continent for science and, eventually, the hobby.
Cyprinodontidae is the scientific name for Killifish, which includes all "egg laying tooth-carps."
