Fund. fallas was RE: minimum tanks (on topic/no spam) fifindiyellow
I just picked up a pair of Fund. fallax CI 99 at this weekend's WAKO show (Great show BTW). They are a young pair about two inches total length. I have them in a decorated 10 gallon on my desk with an eclipse hood/filter. I just released them a half-hour ago and they're hanging around the front corner over a big clump of fine leaf Java Moss.
The female just flaring her fins at the male and then started to shimmy and back into him, caudal tail towards his flank. After about 3-4 tries, the male finally responded by flaring his fins in response. This lasted a few minutes, then they stopped without any further breading behavior. I suspect they'll try to lay eggs soon.
The common approach is to bread these fish over peat and store the eggs for approx. 6 weeks. But obviously, they've chosen the Java Moss as the next best medium. Some folks have had luck with plant spawners by collect the Java Moss with the eggs and incubating them in the moss. Anyone ever try that with fallax or have an opinion (on this list!) on whether it might work or not?
Also, I've read were they reach sexual maturity in 4-5 weeks. This pair is older than that but still not full size. I know this often leads to infertile eggs with many species. Would that be true with fallax as well?
Thanks
