RE: minimum tanks (on topic/no spam)
Hi Boat,
I have the fallax Fafinda yellow and they are absolutely in harmony
together. Fin damage is very rare and they often lay about side by side. As
both the male and the female have had a chomp out of their fins on one or
two occasions I thought that it must have happened during a feeding frenzy.
I have watched them chop up earth worms so I know they have sharp teeth. I
never thought about separating them for any reason. So far the only thing
that they don't eat seems to be their eggs. Are the CI98's less compatible?
By the way after 5 months and collecting hundreds of eggs and only one belly
slider I finally have 5 eggs eyeing up! Despite their charming personalities
the yellow fallax is by no means a starter fish. I take it the CI 98 was not
much easier.
And as I have another 200 or so gallons of fish tanks in the works I can
appreciate how you got over run so quickly.
Best regards,
~RJ~

Ok here is my situation, for those who don't mind the read.
I started keeping killifish just after the 2000 AKA convention here in
Tampa. (Should never have offered to help.) I started with Fn. fallax
CI98. Not exactly the fish to start with either!!! Anyway, I started with
that (2 aquariums to condition the pair separately, cause female got a
broken jaw and filed an injunction), Now 1.5 years later, I have 40 tanks
(soon to be 46) and an ever shrinking fish room.
It is my plant to "Maintain" 3 to 5 species of fish. The rest are my fun
fish. If they plop down into a rut then I will adopt them for maintenance,
of a fish comes along I like then the one that isn't quite working out for
me will get the bump at the next club auction. I currently bread about 20
different species of killie and just keep at least 10 other species. I will
say this but now one listen ok? (I like killifish better than African Rift
Lake Cichlids, and find them more addicting.)
BTW, I run all the tanks on the Jehmco L45 lineat compressor air pump, rated
at fewer tanks.
I also use the racks I got at Lowe's at 59 bucks plus the cost for 3/4 in.
plywood cut to size. Clearance between tank and the shelf above it seems to
be an ongoing issue and probably wouldn't be if I'd done it differently but
oh well.
I don't have my light situation quite like I wanted it, but that will come.
It is an ever-changing fish room that is for sure, but at least I have a
fish room now, as I didn't in May of this year. (Bought house in June!!)
I found a 24-gallon a day RO system for $100 bucks that fills a 32 gallon
trash can in the garage. I find a utility sink in the garage a must. Have
an extra fridge in the garage (it was left behind by the former owners of
the house). And have a desk (card table), which I found to be a must in any
fish room, with a bright extendable desk lamp. I also have 5 gal buckets
handy and 5 - 5 gal water bottles (carboys) for my RO, 1/2 and 1/2, and
straight hard tap water. My containers range from small clear plastic
containers I got at Big Lots, which are clear enough to make fair pictures
through, since I don't have a photo tank, to 20 gallon tanks, of which I
only have 3 or 4. I only have one tank out of room, and that is a 55 show
in the front hallway/foyer. That was the one freedom my wife afforded me,
the other tanks have remained in the fish room (unless broken of course.)
Ok nuff rambling,
Boat
