  I disagree with you.  I have 19 tanks and I think that that's too 
many.  I raise a lot of killies, and I sell a lot too.  I keep all my fry in 
shoe boxes, and they grow very well to adulthood in those plastic 
shoe boxes.
  Say, if you want a good divider for small tanks about 3 or 4 
gallons, try buying a plastic hook (rug) starter.  I do not think that 
it's for making rugs, but it is for making plate mats or the kind.  It is 
made up of many 1/4 inch squares.  Here, stores sell them for 
about 35 cents each.  I cut them to fit my tanks  of course, they 
bow when put into the tank, but they serve their purpose.  You can 
also buy them in hobby shops.  Try it,

Hi Folks,

As most of you know it is difficult to raise killies with under 30 fish
tanks. Dividers make the it at least possible.

Today I took on the project of designing a tank divider for a 2.5 gal
aquarium. I have tried to purchase same and after finding that there are
never any on any store shelves I tried asking the sales people. I received
blank stares and the occasional "WHY?" After explaining the obvious I
usually wound up with more blank stares or more  "WHY?'s".

After several failed attempts using various materials I keep around my home.
I found a plastic throw away pastry package from Shop Rite. I cut out the
flat top with scissors. This left me with a very thin, clear sheet of rigid
plastic. I cut it oversize so that it bows slightly when pressed between the
front and the back of the tank. I then took a 1/16 drill bit and with the
help of an electric drill added lots of holes to the divider. I took a
single edge razor blade and carefully removed the excess plastic around the
holes.

I washed the divider with dish detergent to remove any traces of food matter
and oil from the injection molding process. Then rinsed it well under hot
water.

This is the most under engineered solution I have ever come up with! And so
far it looks like it will work just fine.

I have seen larger pastry containers which could make for larger dividers.
If you have a taste for pastry the dividers are free!

I still think the glass dividers, siliconed in place that Jim Fong uses are
about as good as it gets. He makes the glass 1/16" undersize as the cement
fills that gap nicely.

The dividers I used were intended for small reports, so the edges were
pressed
closed on the side opposite the flat spine (which is siliconed to the
glass).
It's really hard to get the plastic canvas started into them, so I cut off a
45 degree corner at the top. That way, just pressing down with the mesh
sheet
tends to open the binder and let you slide them on down. You adjust the fit
by
cutting the mesh to size. Too long and it bows, and too short -- well...

weld
