RE: Aphyosemion riggenbachi
Hi Folks,
I have seen a gold form of this fish which has been maintained in the hobby
for over 20 years in at least one fish room. The gold form that I have seen
are interesting in that no two are actually alike. The gold color is similar
to the gold color on the golden GAR. They appear to be gold with maroon
patches or maroon with gold patches. They came from a "normal" population
which has retained its normal coloration through over the years.
I was told that some of them have been released to the hobby in the past
year or two.
Do the wild golds have a uniform pattern or are they also haphazardly
colored.
Best regards,
~RJ~

I think Tyrone has answered most of the questions. I am assuming the
population in question is A.riggenbachi Dibeng Yellow. Their is also a blue
& an intermediate colour form. The blue we are working on in the BKA
conservation project & should be made more available next year.
The intermediate form will need some work & time.
The yellow form was breeding well very soon after being cleaned up from
importing from Cameroon.
The BKA conservation website contains photo's of the yellow (gold) & blue
forms. Follow this link, http://www.killifish.f9.co.uk/Killifish/Index.htm
click 'species list' then A.riggenbachi Dibeng.
One point I would disagree with Tyrone on. This species is a big fish &
appreciates a larger tank. They weren't called the giant 'biv' for nothing.
I think both forms will be put into AKA conservation tanks in the near
future.
Tim
