RE: air pump

Hi Jay,

If you really want a great cheap pump find a thing called a Silent Giant and
unclog it. I have one running about 10 tanks with air to spare. I believe
that it only draws about 3 watts. And it is almost as quiet as the name
implies. I got two of these things when I bought a leaking fish tank for a
dollar at auction. I am currently working on the other! It really is a shame
that they don't still make these. Its amazing that after so many years that
they have no parts which actually wore out as far as I can tell.  But as I
never saw one run when it was new, maybe they are warn, its just hard to
imagine! Does anyone actually remember how many tanks these things could do
when they were new?

By the way if any of you still have any of these laying around and they are
not putting out any air, they are most likely clogged and not worn out!
Don't toss them away before taking them apart and testing the pump itself!
