The irradiation to kill any log amount of spores (99.99%, 99.999% etc.) is a
function of energy x time, and I'm sure they'll work that out in designing
the machines for sufficient exposure. Yes, spores are tough to kill with
chemicals, but not with irradiation.

... Does irradiation kill anthrax spores? They are tough little devils and
quick zap may not be enough to do the job, especially at the high speed in
which letter sorting machines process envelopes.
