David, do you use mops in the tanks with the moss or just the moss alone?

BTW, I did a quick search and found an early Killie Notes article that references the use of Sphagnum Moss.  So the technique has been around a while.

... It is important to consider the disposition of this species as
a very shy and retiring one * indeed, more so perhaps than any
other Aphyosemion currently available. Both my breeding stock
and young are kept well out of the way of traffic and work areas
in the fish room. I use a thin layer of peat moss on the bottom of
each tank, and in addition, dense thickets of boiled sphagnum moss
(sold commercially in nurseries and florist shops as a potting and
moisture retention medium). Sphagnum is unique in that i t is some-
what attractive, aids in maintaining acidity and requires no light.  ...
