Re: shipping fish
Hi everyone,
I already sent this to Bob directly but I wanted
eveyone to read my reply to him. These are my latest
experiences shipping fish. Bob's info is different
than mine. YMMV!
Hi
I shipped a box to CA today (10/15) priority 5 pounds.
According to the postmaster here some of the
postmasters are making up their own rules as they go.
Here's the only rule, shipments marked "Live anything"
will go by ground no matter what the weight. Thats
because FEDEX is now contracted to move the priority
mail and express mail. They (might) use
unheated/unpressurized cargo planes and will not
guarantee live delivery. I sent a package last week
Express mail. It weighed 3.5 pounds. It was delivered
today (6 days). BUT it was marked "live tropical
fish-keep warm" It was delivered on Saturday and it
was stamped "Ground Transport Only". I didn't want to
mark the box as "live" but the person on the other
receiving end insisted.
I sent a box of fish to AZ last Tuesday priority but
it was marked "Scientific Specimen- Perishable" and it
arrived in 2 (3 actually) days. The fish were in great
shape.
Regards,
Jim
