RE: Bargain Books

I actually think I met Mr. Schlesser in Texas a couple of years ago.
It it is the same guy he used to work at the Dallas Aquarium? He did a talk
on a collecting in South America. He takes fantastic photos, and the talk
was one of the best I have been to. Nice fellow.

Yesterday at a Borders book store I bought a book called "North American
Native Fished For The Home Aquarium" ISBN 0-7641-0367-9. It was in their
bargain book pile. It is published by Barron's and the author is listed as
David M. Schlesser. The Book is selling for $3.99, Amazon has 2 used copies
right now for $14.95. It was printed in 1998 and is currently out of print.
I haven't read very much yet, so I can't review it. The killies covered are
Rivulus, Fundulus, Lucania, Jordanella, Cyprinodon. & Heterandria.

From the Publisher
Aquarium hobbyists with do-it-yourself instincts and aptitudes will learn
how to go directly to streams and brooks to find fish for their home tanks.
The book includes information on setting up a tank and bringing the fish
home safely, plus feeding, diseases, and home breeding. More than 80 fish
species are highlighted. 100+ color photos

I finally made it my (new-ish) local Borders book store last night, and on
the very last shelf of the very last of the bargain book racks found two
copies of this book. (I had not yet given up hope, although I was getting
concerned. <g> )

Marked down to one dollar ($1.00).

Haven't had a chance to do anything more than skim a few pages, but at the
price of one chicken wing or a 20-minute phone call (yeah, I watch TV),
these seemed like too good a deal to pass up.

Wish they'd have had 50 ... would make a nice accompaniment for AAT set-ups.

Not to mention the 20 or so I could have used personally as stocking
stuffers / token gifts for all the as-yet-unconverted junior relatives.

Check out the bargain book section near you !!!! You too might have a
future as Johnny-Apple-FishBook. Or whatever.
