For a small fishroom, one of the dechloraminators (Amquel, Prime, etc.)
can be used. Big carbon filters, in series, can do a larger setup at
lower cost. The latter has the advantage of not killing all your
infusoria, too. Restrict flow rate though as it takes a *long* contact
time for the water to test clean (simple chlorine test kit is mandatory,
IMHO).

It is more likely that your water has different osmicity and the moving
shock caused physical damage. I rarely move fish without a quick test
for total dissolved solids (tds). I adjust the water if the difference
is over 2:1 either way, by either drip acclimation or partial dilution.
Always (and I mean always) get a water report from your new location
before you move, and plan water introduction based on how much
difference you expect in hardness (mostly tds) and antibacterials. For
big differences, there is no substitute for gradual acclimation. If in
doubt, drip.
Last, but not least, severe pH differences can have an impact on your
husbandry techniques. "pH shock" is 100% mythology, but nitrites and
ammonia can be deadly at low and high pH respectively. Learning new
water problems must take those into account, too.
