I've had some success at getting these from my local Dunkin Donuts store.  They receive their icing in them and usually toss them out when empty.  I do get funny looks when I try to explain why I want them, the last time was to do tie-dying T-shirts with natural dyes at scout camp.  Once they even tried to charge me $1 each, until I said that the last time I got it for free.

I know some cichl-idiots use them for transporting larger fish to shows or conventions or for moving to a new house.  They are especially useful for this purpose if you get the lid that can be screwed off.  www.sportsmansguide.com sells them for $6 (KX1X - 37592 - Gamma Seal).
