I would probably choose a Hagen. They have several small models
available in many pet stores. You might have to use a two-way gang valve so
you can have a "bleeder" to prevent too much turbulence in your tank. The
little Whisper's are even quieter, but they never last as long for me. I
always suspend a pump from a thick rubber band to prevent any noise from
vibrating on a surface. The little pumps can still be a bit louder than the
mid to larger sizes, but they can be bearable in my own experience.
Wrapping them in a towel can help too.
