Mailing Live Fish

As many of you have experienced, mailing of live fish is a problem. Yes, I
agree that if war does break out that mail will really become a problem.
Even though the guarantee period for shipping fish is October... Starting in
September, especially in my State of Montana, LIVE FISH restrictions apply.

I have sent fish in double boxes with styro containers in unmarked
condition. I have further taken the precuation by putting the killies in
Kordon breathable airbags. The boxes I have shipped recently have all
arrived in good shape with the killies alive. I did get a box from Hawaii
that took 10 days to get to me and the fish were alive! I was quite
pleased. They were shipped in normal 4x8" ploy bags. I attribute the
success from the fact that the box was sent from the warm state of Hawaii
and the fact thet Montana has had a very nice, warmer than normal fall thus
far. The fact remains that Montana can have a big swing in weather, thus
the September cutoff of live animals leaving the area.

I know that sending in unmarked, but well protected shipping containers and
the use of the Kordon airbags has been key to my success. I highly
recommend use of the breathable airbags.

Karl may be right... we may need to get back to driving to get killies,
attending conventions, and affiliate association auctions... The fact
remains that its possible that the event of war may cause changes that will
impact on our freedom of live animal shipment. I hope not!
