Vinyl siding is very rare in CA, so I used pieces cut from 3" vertical vinyl 
blinds. A big package of them was only $10 at Home Depot and they can be cut 
with stout scissors or light metal shears.

PVC *is* vinyl, since the letters stand for poly vinyl chloride. PVC cement 
is much more secure than silicone, which doesn't bond really well to vinyl 
(but enough to hold end plates).
