Re: Pea problem

Fundulopanchax seem to like shelled, cooked peas broken to size. Pupfish and
relatives relish them too. I would guess most hardwater killies, whose diet
often includes algae - on purpose or incidentally, would do well with them.
(Peas do have some plant protein.)

While plunking peas in with a few rainbows, livebearers, and Central
American cichlids, who all relished them, a few were crushed and dropped in
with the killies. Some Aphyosemions took them as opposed to not eating. All
thing must pass (I hope).

On the other hand, a couple quarter peas were dropped in with some largish
Aplo. lineatus. Three - four days later that pair was entered in a killie
show. After being on display a couple of hours they regurgitated the pea
segments virtually unchanged. The peas hadn't hurt the lineatus, but
obviously were removed from their menu.

If the killies are going to the trouble of foraging peas particles off of
the tank bottom, they probably will do ok with them.

Just observe the customers to see if the entree should be repeated. And only
lob peas into the living room community tank at dinner time if the spouse is
not around.

All the best!
