RE: Another Idea for the National Convention
As you are all probably aware, the main reason I am asking for AKA member
input is to try and improve the Convention experience by addressing members
observations, of past Conventions, that they might like to see happen
differently in St. Louis.
The AKA is no different than any 40 year old organization: is comprised
largely of middle-of-the-road members who "go with the flow" and two
minority anchor factions that are very vocal about anything that happens.
Of the two anchor groups, we have the rigid traditionists that can't stand
the notion that anything should ever change in the AKA. They fight tooth
and nail to hang on the past which does not exist in the present. Then we
have the faction that would change everything so that nobody would recognize
the AKA. Both groups are part of the lunatic fringe of the AKA and are so
far right and left of each other that they are actually joined together on
the opposite side of the circle. Luckily, they both are a true minority.
Just the same, their voices need to be heard.
What I'm looking for is not really whether you agree or disagree with ideas;
that's easy to do. The question is how do we, you and I, collectively,
improve the Convention process though careful consideration of other's
idea's and experiences. Seldom does someone leave than National Convention
and wish that if something had been a little different, their experience
would have been better. Those ideas are that we are looking for. We are
not trying to go with a massive design change, we just recognize that all
moving parts need an occasional "tune-up".
