Re: Idea for the Next National Convention?
Hi,
If the fish are treated right they will make it. The only time I have
lost fish is when they are old and about ready to die. Most of the new and
rare fish do quite well with the changes if they are treated right.
Every time I have gone to a convention I have seen better fish for sale
in the rooms or sale table than are entered in the show.
Most shows have mops they put in with the new and rare fish that the
fish can hide in to get away from the bright light. Most killifish shows do
not have bright lights over the tanks anyway. If you want to see the fish
take a flashlight with you. I sometimes forget the flash light and borrow
one from the show committee. When you view the fish that you would like to
own write its name and entry number down for the auction.
To raise a good fish pair it will take over a year to get most of them
up to size. After a year of work I do not want to put it in a show where I
cannot bring it back home with me. ( this is the reason that I have entered
so few fish over the years.)
Auctions are a poor way to spread the fish around the same rich guys
keep buying the best ones and killing them.
I TOTALLY AGREE WITH TONY ON THIS ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First of
all, bringing rare or new fish to the convention that one is not willing to
"loose" is crazy. The things might die. They will be in those awlful little
reflective plastic tanks with lights shinning at them. I cannot imagine why
anyone would risk just showing a fish that was rare, and that was so
uncommon
that they would only show it IF they could take it back home with them.
Chances are it would die. If the person has enough of these rare fish at
home
to risk just showing a pair; then the person has enough pairs at home to
donate that show pair to the auction. I would not want a rare fish to be
risked for the show if that breeder DID NOT have back up stock at home, and
if there is back up stock at home there is no reason not to donate it to the
auction -- except money issues. I think people being allowed to keep fish
brought to the show is a horrible idea and I hope it never gets started. It
is so totally against the legacy and spirit of the AKA and would feed the
modern spirit that so hurts the hobby.
