Re: Vinegar Eels
I have great success with my vinegar eels. You and anyone else
are welcome to a starter if needed. They are really tiny and "threadlike"
doesn't quite express it. They are more like tiny, swimming bits of spider
silk. They swim near the surface in a kind of cloud. I'll bet if you put a
bit of your culture in a small clear container and looked with a magnifying
glass, you will see them clearly. I use a half and half mixture of pure
apple cider vinegar and dechlorinated (dechloraminated) water. I use about
a half of an apple for food, cut into 1/2-3/4 inch chunks as food. I
originally made two jars thinking I'd switch back and forth between them as
they replenished themselves. Instead, one jar provided such abundance that
I never even opened the second jar for a year! I am just starting a new jar
because the "mother of vinegar" is now taking up more than half of the jar.
