Is there one "best" way to collect white worms for feeding?

Back when I used to feed a piece of bread, it was easy.  They just all 
collected under the bread slice, and I'd grab a bunch with tweezers and drop 
them into some water to rinse them off.  It was mostly worms, very little 
"soil".

Now that you guys have me feeding kitten chow, the worms are scattered all 
over the place.  There must be a convenient way to collect them.  What's the 
secret?
