This differs from my understanding of it. KMn04 basically is a *tanning* 
agent, and tends to toughen and cross-link organic molecules, particularly 
proteins. That's fine on skin, but very rough on gills and more delicate 
membranes. The tradeoff isn't always obvious.

The original description sounds a whole lot like Fish Tuberculosis, and 
random use of antibiotics is to be heartily discouraged for such problems. 
[Mine came in with commercial Dwarf Gouramis, BTW.]

By the time I was infected, the Docs were down to only three antibiotics 
that were even possible cures, but each had resistant strains of 
*Mycobacterium marinum*. The one I took (Biaxin) was $6 a pill, twice a day, 
for over 6 months to get rid of it.
