RE: shy aphyosemion

Hi Doug,

Some people claim that the more cover you provide your fish the more likely
they are to come out. But as far as I can tell some fish just hide all of
the time. Reclusive behavior is more common with fish you purchase rather
than breed. But some species are just shy. I had some very nice Celiae
Celiae. The males were far more reclusive than the females. But I can guess
that the males pushed the females out of the Java Moss and out into the
open. I loved the looks of the fish but after a year of not seeing them I
moved them out to other people who did not mind having empty looking tanks.

Best regards,

~RJ~

I use that setup on Gardneri, but in a 10 gallon. I see them almost every
time I feed them. Mostly the female though, the male hides more.
I use a turkey baster to move the fry as soon as I see them.

I have two pairs of A. bitaeniatum, 1 pair in two 2.5 gallon tanks exactly
the same, same filter, water, mop, light, cover, temp and food. The only
difference is one pair hides all the time and the other does not. Try and
figure that one out. I gave up a long time ago!
