hard water killies
Hector,
I breed a few killies in hard water. In fact I breed most of my killie
stock in hard water. (200 to 320 ppm) I will disagree with Charles,
however, as 4 of the fish I breed need softer, tannic water for best
results. These are Rivulus tenuis, Aphyosemion hera, Pseudepiplatys (Ep.)
annulatus, and Epiplatys lamottei. The fish I have bred or breed now
with success in hard water are as follows: Epiplatys chaperi chaperi
'Angona', Epiplatys dageti 'Monrovia', [many] Fn. Gardneri with the
exception of Mamfense and Akamkpa locations, Aplocheilus linneatus 'Gold',
Nothobracnhius korthause 'Red Form', Nothobranchius rachovii, and
Nothobranchius rubripinnis. I will agree with Charles, however, has a
point though that most killifish can be kept and can live long lives in
hard water. It is just that the production can be negligible at best with
some killifish in hard water.
That is just my two cents and I am only a horticulturist, not a chemist.
