The best reason for joining the AKA is the most simple: Most of what we all
enjoy today, members and non-members, would not have been possible without
the collective efforts of the AKA.  The AKA gave us the genesis to
communicate, band together, and share experiences and fish.
Yes, you can obtain fish and trade experiences without being a member but
don't delude yourself that it's free; it was bought and paid for by the
conservators of our legacy.

I believe Al was speaking of a time long ago in a galaxy far away.  Those
people are probably not the crux of the hobby in your area anymore.
