Hi Doug--

I've occasionally had this type of thing show up in fish (LIN) that I
bought from a LFS. Fortunately, they were still in quarantine when I
noticed it, so it didn't spread to other fish. If I remember correctly,
it's a nematode type worm that needs a crustacean as an intermediate
host. Another club member also had it show up in LIN, he was feeding
daphnia and cyclops at the time, it spread quickly and wiped out his LIN
population.

There are some nice (gruesome) pics of this and other parasites in
Axelrod's Atlas and in Baensch volume one.

Sorry to hear its hit your fish. Glad that you have found a treatment
that works.

KI>I've had a slowly progressing but nasty disease making it's way through my
KI>fish room, but I think it's some kind of intestinal parasite now. I get
KI>emaciation, crooked spines on once straight fish and now red and swollen
KI>anuses with the worms sticking out (kind of a tip off that one) more
KI>recently. Anyone else encounter this? It doesn't seem to move between
KI>tanks too easily, but it's wiped out a couple of my species.

KI>I'm treating it with a proprietary med from fishyfarmacy, which seems to be
KI>doing the trick. I've also picked up some discomed (mostly levamisol) for
KI>this, but that's only for the next out break, should there be one.

KI>Any advice?
