Frank, I saw some 'Horti Moss' at the local garden store which states the
following;
HORTI Moss Peat is derived from partially decomposed sphagnum mosses. It is the
ideal soil conditioner for all types of soil, it opens up heavy clay, improving
aeration and drainage, adding body to light sandy soils and helping moisture
retention in dry periods. It helps to retain fertilisers and keep plant foods
available to the roots for strong healthy growth.
HORTI Moss Peat provides a long-term source of humus to promote vital soil
bacteria. It is clean, free of weeds and diseases, odourless and easily spread.
HORTI Moss Peat is a natural product, free of any additives and is suitable for
planting lim haters, eg. Azaleas, Rhododendrons, Asparagus etc.
Brief info is available at : http://www.horti.com.sg/mixnp/mixnp.htm
I'm unsure whether this is what killie keepers will use but I've just rinsed out
some for a grindal culture. Would anyone use this stuff for annuals based on
their description? Comments?
There's also a pellet-like peat that Eheim package for their canister filters
(if you want to be absolutely fish-safe) but not cheap.
