RE: Microscopes
For Microscopes I would recommend that you check out American Science &
Surplus (847) 982-0870 www.sciplus.com They offer a Dissecting Bi-scope
(#90313) that has 10X and 30X for $199. This has worked well for me. At
30X it shows an egg in full window and I can easily see eye development,
even can see fin movement. They have other standard microscopes, e.g., a
40, 100, 400X (#52453) for $129. I have received one of these, but find I
use it little in the fish room. 30 to 50X is all I would recommend for the
fish room.
BTW, they offer all kinds of stuff / junk. Lab supplies, cheap tools, misc.
containers, corks, eye droppers, tape, string, etc.etc.etc. All kinds of
neat stuff for just a couple of bucks that a fish room can't be without. I
once received a bunch of plastic bowls, ex-patio lights, that are working
great as peat containers! Check it out for your junk, err, invaluable
supplies.

Subject: Microscopes
Hello all. I am sure there is someone on the list here that might be able to
give me some advice. I am thinking of buying a Microscope. I think it would
be cool to get a closer look at, paramecium cultures, velvet ich, vinegar
eels, ect. Any way I wanted to know what I should look for in a microscope
and specifically what if any opinions you may have about the QX3 (toy from
Mattel that uses a USB to connect to your computer).
Thank you,
John
