Microscopes

I am thinking of buying a microscope. It would be very nice to look at some
of the stuff related to fish close up. For instance paramecium, vinegar eels
or algae. I have to admit it takes me quite a long time to locate any
vinegar eels in my culture (I know that they are there I just can't see them
very good) and as far as paramecium go, well forget about actually seeing
them at all it some times feels as though I am culturing water. Any way I
was hoping with all of the scientific types on this list that some one could
give me some advice. Like what power of an objective I should be looking
for and perhaps some price ranges for good (not great) stuff. Also I have
done a little bit of surfing and found that Mattel make a USB microscope
(for kids) that is supposed to be capable of up to 200x. I was wondering if
any one has had an experience with this (toy) it is called the "QX3". It
looks a little cheaply made being made of plastic, but if it gets the job
done it would be very cool, coming in at under $100.00, and I would get the
added benefit of being able to capture images and send them to people for
identification. This could be invaluable in once and for all correctly
identifying parasites, and other small (possibly microscopic) life forms.

Thank you, (as usual your insight would be greatly appreciated)
John
