Once the velvet is gone (for a while) bring the salinity
down to 1 tsp/gallon. The easiest way to do this is to
make a stock solution and then do a small water change
each day out of it.
While such a high salinity shouldn't be dangerous, it
will not be good in the long run.
Mix some sodium bicarbonate (and Ca carbonate if you can
get it) into the stock solution. Keeping the pH above 7
is more important than keeping the salinity up.
