Jehmco's L-45W Linear compressor with a floating piston is the best one for
all pump I can recommend and is worth the money. You will eventually have
more tanks, trust me. It adjusts internally to the air needed in the tanks.
So quiet you cannot hear it over the bubbling of the tanks and it saves
energy at lower need. (lower air consumption) IT is a spectacular pump, and
for 250 or less it can't be beat!!!!

Hi Alberto,
You could go for the Dynamaster 2 which is a great pump, I have 2 in
storage. They are very reliable and can be rebuilt about every two years or
so. They are also rather loud. They draw from .45 amps to .65 amps depending
on which motor they had on hand the day they made it. Or you could use two
to three good quality, larger vibrator pumps at about 3 to 6 watts each.
They can also be rebuilt and will save you a great deal of money in
electricity. If electricity and noise are a concern to you go vibrator if
not go for the Dynamaster. You might want to pick up spare air filters,
drive belts, pump oil and pistons so you have them on hand. When I ran them
I kept a rebuilt pump in stock so that I could just swap them and rebuild at
my leisure.
Best regards,
~RJ~

Unlike some of you who tend to dozens or hundreds of tanks, I only
have 10-to-15 tanks (most of them between 5 and 10 gallons). I'm
looking for a pump that can supply enough air to run airstones (for
corner filters, foam filters, and for general aeration) in all these
tanks. Given the size of my 'operation', can anybody recommend a
pump? Pros and cons? BTW, I was looking at the Dynamaster #2. Is
that a good choice? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks.

PS. I have followed some of the discussions on this topic in the
past, but, as I recall, a lot of them focused on air blowers capable
of running hundreds of outlets ... way more (capacity and expense)
than I need.

Although striatum are not nearly as aggressive as other killies. In many
cases it is better to do the group thing than 2 pairs the aggression gets
spread out more evenly and there are less losses. With two pairs the
dominant male can eventually beat the smaller one to death. The larger the
tank the better if you are working with two confined males. As I mentioned
striatum are less aggressive than others so it may not become a problem. But
keep an eye on them for signs of aggression.

Hi Andres,
Traditionally, the salt water dip is done with water exceeding 1.020 but not
by much 1.024 is OK. The rapid salinity shift kills the parasites in
seconds. Different fish can tolerate differing lengths of dip. As I do not
know exactly how long it takes to kill your parasite. The longer the better.
But as you are dealing with fry you might not have a very long time to work
with before the fish themselves are killed.
Therefore dip one fish at a time. And watch for stress. When the fish looks
like it can't take any more get it out fast. Adult killifish can usually
tolerate 45 seconds to 90 seconds.
But when it comes to fry, just play it by ear.
Best regards,

I had a nice hatch of three species of Nothos. They got about 1/2 inch long
and started to have major losses. Two or three fish every day. I could not
see any velvet, nor could a friend who really knows his fish. Tried
different things with each of the tanks. (more salt, acriflavin etc) The
only tank that I added a handful of new peat to survived . Deaths stopped
about 2 days later. Nothing else saved the others so maybe this is a worth
while action if salt does not seem to help and velvet is not readily
apparent.
I'm new with Nothos so I can't say much but tell the experience I had.

Hi Bill,
That sounds more like a bacterial infection than velvet if it was
inhibited by peat. I recall many bacteria are inhibited by acidic (lower
pH) situations. Supposedly this is why there are problems with canning
non-acidic foods as the anaerobic, non-acidic conditions are ideal for
botulism. I suspect that there are other bacteria that are inhibited by
acidic conditions. Microbiology was a long time ago. Sue Katz any ideas?
BTW: the fish you sent to me are doing great. The zygamia are starting
to spawn, not nearly as prolific as the occelatum..

That's exactly how I do it. I have 2 pairs of Aph. striatum Cape

They are jumpers though! Keep them covered!

Ditto on the Hagen Maximas from Pet Warehouse. I have a half-dozen
of them going now. They last a long time and are pretty quiet. The
bubbling of the filters completely covers the pump noise.
