go to the www.aka.org site
link to and read the AKA online beginners' guide.
check out the links (other sites of interest) for places like FINS, the
KRIB, the IKA and so many more ...
link to other national killie group sites and their links...
check out the fish and egg listing on the AKA site now that you have a
better idea of what you want to do.
link to affiliate clubs, find one near you and attend a meeting, bring
a styro box, set up three tanks ahead of time :)
affiliate club sites (Cincinnati especially comes to mind, so does
Chicago, et al) often have good articles,
search the archives from this list for recommendations on equipment
look at the show announcements (if affiliates ever send them in)
also go to places like www.fishlinkcentral.com looking for general clubs
and their auctions
check out www.aquabid.com the prices and postage are higher than at a
killie club meeting, probably lower than at a LFS and they are a "bird in
the hand" (ok "fish in a bag"). Some equipment and plants are also offered.
register for the killietrader list at
killietrader-subscribe at yahoogroups_com (that will be their new address ).
You will meet a lot of great people through those contacts, several of them
also frequent this mailing list.
As you have questions on what you discover, please check back here.
NEXT week we'll give you a reading list. ;)
hint: S. Hellner's Killifish, A Complete Owners Guide (Barrons) will
be high on the list.
Good luck and all the best!
Scott
