Re: striatum

Scott,
I raised them up in a plastic shoe box. In fact I had over 100
striatums. I always make sure I raise enough to have pairs for
selling, and breeding. I had some 30 pairs in a ten. My ten was
only a foot from the floor so the temperature wasn't that warm. I
change close to half the water weekly. I have no filtration nor
aireation to my tanks. (my spelling's bad - excuse me) In fact, I
have 19 tanks against one wall along with 20 plastic shoe boxes. I
just sold 36 pairs of striatums this past week. I'm down to about
15 pairs that I keep in a ten gallon tank. In the tank I have lots of
mops for them to retreat in. None of my killies ever chew on one
another. I feed generously raw chicken and raw beef heart and a
dry shrimp pellet food. Sometimes I feed them twice a day. Do
you know Mr. Dave Price? He's been here a number of times and
he is amazed of how many fish I breed. I enjoy it. It's a lot of work
though. Now now I have pulled over 100 eggs from my four australe
pairs. Maybe I'll flood the market with them. If you ever get to
Dayton, you can come and see my setup.
Right now I'm trying to raise a pair of white bettas. I have them
also in a ten right now. I leave them together until they do their
thing. The other day my small gobies hatched out. The parents
ate a lot of them, but I still was able to save about 30 fry. They are
very popular among killie hobbyist. I sold quite a number at the
killie show in Indiana two years ago. I had one pair left and I
decided to breed them again. I'm back in business. They are easy
to raise, at least for me. The fry take a long time to mature. I have
to hatch out brine shrimp every day for about 5 months just to feed
them. But - no problem - cause I have to feed the killie fry also. I
feed all my fry up to 1/2 inch bbs and micro worms. After that I
transfer them into a ten where they can take off in growth. Then
they get raw meat, and dry food. I must condition them on dry food
otherwise the shops won't buy them. I get enough to support my
hobby.
Key, have a nice day. If I can help you out, just say the word,
   Bro. Paul
