Re: Peat Moss Preparation

Hi,I use Jiffy 7 peatpellets no mess,no boiling, just peal off netting, drop in the water and it sinks the same day, what has'nt sunk after a few hrs.you just have to tap on the top and it sinks right away.Works for me.I remember the days when Ed.used to boil peat what a mess that was, stink up the whole house and ruin my pots.Im glad he found the peatpellets, much easier to work with. Why do you boil the peat?
I just put peat into water and let it naturally sink to the bottle of
the container.  This takes about a week.  Then I fill my container
with the amount of peat that I will need for each species' tank and
then I run a small stream of cold water on to it from the tap until the
water clears and put it in the aquarium.  The fish spawn in it and
the fry hatch out ok.
