Steve,
  I forgot to mention that I too like RJ hatch my peat in water less 
than an inch deep.  I do not use filtration or any air pumps 
whatsoever for any of my fish tanks.  I think that what helps my fry 
is that I have the original water plus some of my aged water mixed 
into it - but not too much.  I use salt if I think of putting it in, but 
sometimes I don't because I foget.  Then I raise my fry into adult 
hood in a plastic shoe box but with only about 1 to 2 inches of 
water.
