RE: Extending Diapause I in annuals
Hi Marc,
As long as the eggs do not rupture, I would think that your method should
have a better than average shot at working. Although I do not have a vacuum
pump, I suppose that these machines are becoming more common. I was thinking
about an inert fluid. I just can't think of one which would be appropriate.
Distilled water came to mind with just a little salt to balance the osmotic
pressure. But I keep thinking that there should be something which would
work better. I wonder if any of the chemists out there have any ideas.
Best regards,
-RJ-

Subject: Extending Diapause I in annuals
Importance: High
RJ,
I have an experiment currently running with eggs of Caprivi, jubbi
and virgatus maintained in peat moss but in vacuum sealed packs.
All the eggs that I can spot from near the bag surface are still in Diapause
I.
They are over 15 months old.
I have no idea of the outcome as the eggs are experiencing a negative
pressure (under-) rather than a positive pressure.
Marc
