You only need small quantities for hatching eggs and mixing with tap water
for small tanks, so why not purchase distilled or deionized water from a
supermarket. It's only about a buck a gallon. I use lots of soft water and
invested in an RO unit, but for small quanitities that's not necessary.
Anyway, rainwater washing off a roof can be loaded with soot, bird droppings,
and other noxious stuff depending on where you live.
