I need to disagree here. Rivulus throw such skewed sex ratios that we should
not need a lab to develop a working theory. Just more raw data which has
already been collected.

I have been working and developing a computer database
that looks at the water conditions of the water in
which the breeders are spawning, the conditions of egg
development, and the water conditions during the
rearing of the fry. The water conditions that I am
tracking include temperature, pH, and TDS. At this
point I cannot measure nitrate, phosphate, and other
specific dissolved cations. I am collecting data on
whether peat or some other type of biologically active
material is present in the water. Since peat may
release some types of biologically active materials
that mimic hormones I thought that I would try to
include this kind of data. Since sex ratio in fish
seems to be determined by some sort of environmental
trigger, there will be no simple answer to this
problem for killie hobbyists unless it is undertaken
at a univeristy research lab where the variables may
be manipulated so that only one variable is allowed to
change while keeping the others constant.
