Re: Acid rain, etc...

Acid rain is one of the environmental stressors we have to consider when looking at damage done to waterways and the creatures living in them. Fish and amphibians are as sensitive to water quality degradation as birds and mammals are to air pollution. Acid rain, by lowering the pH of various bodies of water, increases the amount of metals, including lead, mercury, and other heavy metal toxins, that are dissolved. This can, in turn, lead to lowered fertility and an increase in defective offspring. So while not placing direct and sole blame on acid rain for any specific extinction, it is certainly a harmful environmental stressor that should be reduced and/or eliminated, even if private industry has to relinquish a small amount of their sacred profits.
