Re: Convention 2001
Re: Convention 2001
Hi everyone-
Norm Rubesamen and Susan Stacey would not toot their own horn here , so I will tell you all, Norm and Susan won many awards at the show including Killifish Hobbyist of the Year (the correct title I think). In fact I wanted to ask N&S if they shipped all of those awards home in boxes or did you guys go out and buy more suitcases??
Susan also entered some of the most realistic and beautiful water color paintings of killifish I have ever seen. The painting of the Riv. xiphidius was my favorite of the paintings. (FYI: she did the beautiful 1999 convention logo) Nice work Susan.
The host club did a great job with this years convention and show. The numbers of entries may have been down a bit from previous years (not sure) but the quality of the entries was good.
There seemed to be a bit fewer fish in the fish sale room but this is just my perception. I don't have actual counts.
The auction had several hundred bags of fish, I would guess 300-400 items. The were many outstanding bags of fish available. Rivulus seemed very popular with several bags going for high prices($40+). Of course the diapterons went for the normal higher prices.
The banquet had good food and was a buffet which was well stocked. The awards went on for what seemed a long time but I feel this is a very important part of the convention. I feel it could be streamlined just a bit.
The presentation by Dr. Huber at the banquet was a bit long for the banquet but I enjoyed it as did most everyone I talked to.
I personally brought home from the auction:
A. biv. volcanum
A. cyanostictum
A. bit. Benin City
A. calliurum
and from the Ep. conservation group meeting, 2 pair of Ep. grahmi from Jack Heller. (thanks Jack)
I also want to thank Pierre Pelletier for delivering the lone oeseri female to me all the way from Montreal. Now thats what I call a great guy. That is also why I think this is such a great hobby!
At the open BOT meeting we were told that no group had yet made a bid for next years convention.
I hope we will hear more about this soon.
John from JehmCo was in attendance with some great products for sale at reduced prices. I think that Jehmco should be supported along with all the other vendors that support the AKA. Spectra Pure donated a RO unit that was raffled off.
Thanks again to NFKA for Convention 2001
