Sex Ratio?
Hi all,
This is a subject that has plagued the AKA for as many years as I can remember. Frankly I don`t think there is a clear cut answer to this problem. I raised my first spawn of A. australe in 1961 and over the years I think I have heard about all the so called theories and for me, none of them have held up. Like temperature, ph, hardness, barometric pressure, season of the year, you name it I`ve heard it. I truely wish there was a clear cut answer as I have 13 young Riv.sp.Mahdia GY 97/7 that are spawning in a flow thru set-up in my fish right now and there are only 2 females in the group. They are in 50 ppm water, 6.0 ph, 76 degrees, spring of the year, what else? Oh yeh, a weather front just passed thru last nite. So enough of this, I`ve got to get back to changing water and breeding these babies and maybe the next spawn will be mostly females.
