Re: AKA convention 2001

Hello,
My impression was a lot like Monty's, although it was only my second
convention. I've heard about the small show, but these things are
relative. For a show-newbie, it was still a very impressive display. Not
only did I see species I've never seen outside of photos, but I saw some
excellent specimens of some familiar fish. there was certainly enough to
keep me happy.

The human specimens were good too. I enjoyed meeting a lot of the people
who had been just names from the list, as well as reconnecting with
people I've met before.

The hotel was a bit of a labyrinth of corridors. Without a central
plaza, meeting area, there were people who I know were there, but I
didn't see. That and the fact American beer seems to have no hops in it
were my only disappointments.

The speakers were very excellent.

It was worth the day's drive (and more), and while I'll deal with my
Buffalo bills later, they'll be worth it too. I'd suggest to anyone who
can get to one of these, but is hesitating, to go in the future. I'm
just glad I wasn't one of the organizers. You'll notice how long it has
taken the attendees to gather enough steam to post impressions. I can't
imagine the state of the people who worked so hard on it.

And, I got cool killies.
