AKA convention 2001

    Hi Fellow Killinuts!

I thought that I would give a few impressions of the convention
and perhaps list the fish that I brought home.
The talks were very good. I really enjoyed Dr. Hubers informal talk
on killie classification and name changes. His formal banquet talk
was a little heavy on the scientific side, but if you were interested in
the evolution of killifishes and their climates it was very informative.
Peter Tirbaks talk on Gabon fishes was very good as usual. Brian Watters
talk on collecting Nothos was very good also and His slides of Nothos
were outstanding in every respect. I like to think that I take good
slides of killifish, but Brian has elevated his photography to a level
above the rest of us killie shutterbugs. Brian, my hat is off to your
superior work!

The show was a little disorganized at times, but overall it
went well and everybody had a good time. The auction went very well and
there were fewer holdups than at most conventions. Good job guys!

The number of fish entries was less than at many shows, but
the quality of the fish entered was higher than usual. The Best-in Show
was an Aphyosemion hera that was truly outstanding, just edging out a
Rivulus species Mahdia that was was gorgeous, with brighter colors than
many Aphyosemions!

I will make another entry in a few days listing the fish I
brought home, if there is interest?

                  Regards,
                                    Monty
