Slight correction. They are a chosen core species for KCC, which the AKA
actively supports. We would not want to imply that one *must* be in AKA to
participate in this "hands-on" conservation project. AFAIK, it is open to
any hobbyist who would like to do a bit to preserve some nice species for
future hobbyists.
I think that KCC historically was an independent group that was mostly North
American. It made good sense to have it under the umbrella of a larger
support organization, so the Chair is now appointed by the AKA BOT, and
reports to them for such functions as close cooperation with SMC.
Lee and Art can correct me if I'm wrong, but the actual costs of KCC are
borne by the participants and no real funding has come from AKA. Likewise,
policy is determined internally, and has not historically been dictated by
either the BOT or AKA Chairperson.
