Re: Hi Doug
>>>I don't know how is Brian Watters, the name sounds someone...<<<
You are obviously new to the list ;-) Don't worry...
Dr. Watters is likely the most knowledgeable person in the world today when it comes to nothos. There are few others that are also very well versed, so I stop short in saying unequivocally the most knowledgeable. His comments to the list are always valuable and to the point.
He also make nearly annual trips to East and South Africa to collect and study nothos, as well as maintains numerous species on his own that would not exist anywhere except through his efforts.
Visit the AKA web site, click on the link to the gallery and then on the Nothbranchius button. At the top of the page you will see three contributions from Dr. Watters;
_The Genus Nothobranchius, an introduction to Nothobranchius by Dr. Brian R. Watters_.
_Status of Nothobranchius in the Hobby: A Database Compiled by Dr. Brian R. Watters_.
_Distribution of Nothobranchius Species An image map prepared by Brian Watters and Barry Cooper_.
The status data base in itself is an amazing accomplishment, especially when taken into consideration the volume of email we've generated these past few weeks on killie census (no intent to slur your herculean effort, Tom).
I don't mean to embarrass Brian or to needlessly glorify him. But we often become jaded after several years in the hobby and tend to forget how much some individuals contribute to the hobby, and there are many others too that fall into this category. And when you speak of the Ol' AKA Codgers that are "hoarding" all of their fish, you really miss the mark because most of them have really been carrying the hobby on their backs for many decades.
