An actual killifish question!

Hello,
I have a mildly retarded question...Here is a chance for the biologist in
all of us to ponder, if its worth a response I would be grateful.
I just wet a batch of Fp. Sjoestdi eggs. I know there is only that species
in the bag as I have hand picked all of the eggs. When I picked all of the
eggs they all seemed to be normal size for this fish. I have collected
thousands of eggs from this pair. Collecting the fry I noticed that half the
group is smaller than any fry I have ever dealt with for any species ( about
the size of Ep. Annulatis newborns), and the other half is twice their
siblings size. They were put into virgin peat so there are no contaminants
from other spawns.
Could it be sex differences? Why such a discrepancy?
