Re: F. confluentus
Hi Martin, I think the Ochobee in your location code is in south Florida on
the edge of the Everglades, on the west(?) side of the Everglades in
particular. The auroguttatus question involves completely different fishes
from the north and central part of Florida. The original Fundulus cingulatus
was redescribed as Fundulus auroguttatus based on an error identifying the
type specimen in a museum collection in Paris (an F. lineolatus was in the
wrong place at the wrong time), and meanwhile F. rubrifrons was elevated to
species status among populations on the eastern and southern edges of
cingulatus' range. If that's not complicated enough, the error in renaming
cingulatus has been recognized and will soon be corrected (by Carter Gilbert
at the Florida Museum) so F. cingulatus will be the correct name once again
for the fish now known as auroguttatus.
Anyway, are your confluentus living in fresh water or brackish?
