Re: electronic delivery of services

I disagree on electronic delivery of JAKA. Much of the material is
copyrighted by the authors who do not want it available for download and
passing around on the internet. Some authors give stuff to AKA first and then
sell it to commercial aquarium magazines later. If it's freely available on
the web, they'll have second thoughts about sending anything to JAKA.. The
protection afforded authors today is inadequate and the authors I know are
not sending anything for electronic pubication unless it's old stuff that has
already been commercially published. In addition, the quality of the color
photography in JAKA is excellent, while the quality of color printers (and
many of us do NOT use cheap color printers, preferring laser quality B&W) is
variable. You cannot assume that because everyone will have computers and
their derivatives in the future that the future is around the corner. Many
AKAers are old timers who still type on typewriters (or write letters by
hand). They're also among the most important mentors of new people and
sources of historical information on the AKA, not to mention species that
many people no longer consider chic. .
