Subject: AKA and BNL
Forgive me before I even start. I am sure to
anger someone. It is not intentional, implied, inferred. I will try the
politically correct method so as to not get another 'big one' going. But here
is my question. The JAKA tends toward scientific scholarly work (good and
needed stuff). The BNL is AKA news, show news, what is going on, the
Fish & Egg listing. (Also good and needed stuff). Is there a place for
articles that reflect what the new members, average members, working with
their fish members can use on a regular basis? As an example, the JAKA Sept -
Dec 1995. Even the editorial page says this is a special issue. I bought it at
the convention last year. What a great issue. Plain down to earth articles
about growing vinegar eels, live foods, Fundulopanchax in general, Blue
Gularis, several over killies, culturing infusoria, how to organize your bags
of peat, microworms. I am constantly re-reading this issue to double check
information. But if you weren't an AKA member at that time, pure luck is the
only way you would know this issue was different. So sure, you say, been there
done that. But remember, any new members in the last 5 years have not been
there done that. This would be valuable info for them. I am sure scattered
through the years there are other issues like this, I just don't know which
ones they are. If we hope to get and hold on to new or less experienced
members, we have to keep a steady, if redundant, supply of information geared
towards them.
Let the bashing
begin.
