I specifically look for 100% acrylic yarn. It doesn't run, fade
easily, or cause any problems that I have ever detected. It does become a
hopless mess if you boil it. So I don't boil it! I use and re-use it until
it acquires a bad smell. At that point I toss it away and use a new mop.
Acrylic yarn is cheap. I use red because it is my favorite color and eggs
show easily for picking. Color doesn't seem to matter. I know one guy who
buys only bargain sell-off acrylic yarn in discontinued bins! He had some
of the ugliest yarn I've ever seen! It didn't make any difference to his
fish.
