KCC
Well, maybe I did not say it loud enough, or maybe you
guys are too busy complaining. I volunteered to give
attention to a species that needs to be conserved in
the hobby. I did this in response to being asked if I
wanted to help. Did anyone reply? No. I wonder how
many other people who are not as aggressive have
volunteered and asked for some direction only to be
forgotten? Maybe this why the AKA loses members? If
nothing else my admission to only having raised one
species of killie should have sparked some interested
mentor type into asking about getting me raising more.
I am not flaming any person or persons, I am just
pointing out that this sort of thing is a prime area
that can help without special programs or what have
you. I cannot drive three plus hours to go to a
meeting (the wife is already unhappy with me going to
local meetings) and I have no personal contacts with
anyone who has killies. I do have space and a
willingness to try, and have spawned 9 species of fish
(not counting livebearers of which I have spawned 5).
Doubtless this still makes me a rookie, but I doubt
that killies other than J. floridae are beyond my
meager skills. In the past I have hummed and hawed
about getting going but just did not have space, now I
have space and although budget is limited, I am ready
to try and help. So, can someone who is involved with
the maintenance or conservation stuff please contact
me about what out there needs to be raised? I am not
crazy about the gardneri, in fact I think they are
ugly little buggers. I also would like to try and
stick with non-annual mop spawning types. This is not
a flame so please do not get feathers ruffled over it.
I am trying to be constructive in my own (possibly
misguided) way.
Scott
